When should I make my child’s first appointment?

We recommend kids start seeing the dentist when their first teeth appear or by the time they turn one year old.

You are welcome to bring them in earlier if you have any questions or concerns.

Young children generally only need to see the dentist every 12 months, however sometimes the dentist may request they are seen every 6 months. We will talk to you about this at your appointment.

Get them comfortable at the dentist!

It is vital that children get used to coming in to see the dentist while they are young, so that they can form good associations and fear of dentists can be avoided.

While children are growing, it’s imperative that their facial growth and dental development is monitored closely so that they can avoid crowding of teeth and jaw issues. Other factors like large tonsils, sleep apnoea/snoring, mouth breathing, thumb sucking need to be assessed and addressed as soon as possible.

Bring your children to see us so that any problems can be diagnosed early and your child can develop a happy, healthy, trusting relationship with dentistry.

What about teenagers and their teeth?

If your child plays a contact sport, a fitted mouthguard from your dentist offers the best protection. Chat to us about the colours and styles available

Sugary sports drinks

Energy and sports drinks contain so much acid and sugar that they start destroying teeth after only a few days of consistent use. Damaged enamel can cause sensitivity and susceptibility to decay and cavities.
